Hi, I’m a text-based butler. See the towel draped over my virtual arm? No?

  1. Register if you haven’t already. If already registered, then login and you’ll immediately be faced with the Write screen, where you can start adding your own video to AudioSurfBoard.
  2. For the Post Title, use this format: Artist - Song. So if your video features the artist The Beatles and the song is Revolution, then your Post Title would be: The Beatles - Revolution.

    Post Title

  3. For Page Content, you’ll notice a couple of rows of buttons. The first row gives you easy access to format whatever you want to write. You’re welcome to write why you liked the song/track created, and tell us your username on Audiosurf.

    Post Content

The second row are buttons that allow you to add your videos from a number of popular video services. These include:

    • YouTube (ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqumbhfxRo)

How to Record AudioSurf Videos

Pick a Recorder:

Pick a program to help you record your AudioSurf gameplay.

Encoders:

Pick a program to encode and compress your recorded gameplay video.

Getting started:

  1. Start FRAPS if it isn’t running yet. Under the Movies tab, tell it where you want the videos to be saved when recorded. For Video Capture Hotkey, set it whatever you like, or leave it at its default. Remember this hotkey, press it once to startrecording, press it again to stop recording. Set it to Half-size if you will be uploading videos to YouTube, MySpace, or any other service that doesn’t support high-definition videos.

Full-size is for registered members of FRAPS, if you’ve bought the program, and want to upload hi-def videos to Stage6 or Vimeo, set it to Full-size. Put a circle in 30fps, make sure Record Sound is checked, set to Detect best sound input, and No cursor and No sync are both unchecked.

  2. Once you’re done recording and exited AudioSurf, open up Dr. Divx. To the right of Input File(s) click on Open. Find the file FRAPS created of your recording, and select it. Depending on how large the file is and how fast your computer is, it may take a minute or two as it analyzes the file. Once finished, go down and click on Quality. Leave it at Best Quality and above that, choose Home Definition for YouTube, MySpace, and other low-resolution video services.

If you’re using Stage6, Vimeo, or other services that support higher resolution videos, choose High Definition. You’re finished, click on Encode to let it compress the file for uploading to your preferred video service. This processing, depending on the size of the file and speed of your computer, can take between 10 to 60 minutes.

If you want to be more hands on, here’s advanced parameters you can set to finetune control on how good your video comes out:

  • YouTube - Resolution: 425×318, Bitrate: 800kbps, Audio Bitrate: 128kbps, Sampling: 44,100kHz
  • MySpace - Resolution: 480×386, Bitrate: 100kbps, Audio Bitrate: 128kbps, Sampling: 44,100kHz
  • Stage6 - Resolution: Any, Bitrate: 4000kbps for 1280×720 or higher, Audio Bitrate: 192kbps, Sampling: 48,000kHz
  • Google Video - Resolution: 640×480, Bitrate: 2000kbps, Audio Bitrate: 192kbps, Sampling: 44,100kHz

Experiment, play with the settings to see what kind of results you get. There’s really no one perfect setting. There are too many variables involved (bitrate, original resolution, video service used, encoding.) However, don’t be overwhelmed, it’s only as complicated as you want it to be. Start simple, and then move up as you get comfortable with recording gameplay and encoding videos.

Please don’t email us with support questions about any of these programs. This is just a rough guide to get you started in sharing awesome AudioSurf runs on AudioSurfBoard.com.
